This is from a presenation about teaching physiology without killing animals.
The author recalls his own experiences during physiology practicals, the killing and dissecting frogs which caused unpleasant feelings. He was most struck by the so-called "sharp" experiments on dogs, especially the behaviour of dogs before they were narcotised.

sharp bedeutet in diesem Fall Schneiden, Hineinschneiden, Eingreifen, was auf jeden Fall auch blutig ist. da es sich um Experimante und nicht um Operationen zur Heilung handelt muß man das mit experimentelle Eingriffe übersetzen.
