succubus/succubi Explanation: Wikipedia lists the plural as succubi and provides a lot of other useful descriptive info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succubus Succubus (and incubus, if the spirit is male) has a specifically sexual connotation--not sure if that fits your context. However, neither I, nor my husband, nor my very-much-into-this-sort-of-thing brother-in-law can think of anything better, at least not anything in one-word. You could go for something more descriptive like "energy-sucking ghost" if you wanted to avoid the sexual connotation of succubus/incubus. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2006-09-15 01:06:47 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Jack suggested searching for "astral larva", for which I got precious few, very repetitive results...but I got much better results searching for the plural, "astral larvae". It is still not terribly common, though. You may indeed want to go with "larva" as hewing closer to the meaning of your original. There's also another term, lemure. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemure for more info on larva/lemure. (All of these terms have been new to me today! You learn something new every day...) |
