local anaesthetic Explanation: I'm guessing that a peripheral nerve block was used. From the first reference: Peripheral nerve block techniques have been shown to significantly reduce postoperative pain for shoulder and knee arthroscopy procedures From the second reference: A peripheral nerve block is a type of regional anaesthetic that involves injecting local anaesthetics and other painkillers near the major nerves to your leg (lower limb). And from this reference (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5579215/): All patients were blocked under ultrasound guidance after surgery in the recovery room. After positioning of the lower extremity in slight external rotation and 30° knee flexion, the thigh was prepped with 2% chlorhexidine in 70% isopropyl alcohol. In the FNB group, the femoral nerve was blocked at the level of the inguinal ligament. https://www.arthroscopyjournal.org/article/S0749-8063(19)30391-3/fulltext https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/surgery/peripheral-nerve-block-lower-limb |
