Latin term or phrase: ..... humanioribus studiis philosphiae, mathematicae et eloquantiae
from an American degree certificate. The university's on-line translation is wrong, I'm sure. It reads: the more humane studies of philosophy, science and eloquence. It is the "humanioribus studiis: which foxes me. Humaniores studiae yields nothing on the web and the university's web-site is useless.. Thanks for any help.

English translation:Studia humaniora
Explanation:
The university's translation is right, albeit perhaps too literal. "Studia humaniora" in Latin refers to what we nowadays call "humanist studies" or "humanities".

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you, yes, I considered this. I didn't think that maths was a subject usually included in humanities. But the university's "more humane" can't possibly be a correct translation, can it. I'll go with your suggestion. Thanks again. J.
