Ascorbate dissolved in water purified*** by ion exchange*** chromatography and reverse osmosis (Milli-Q water purifier; Millipore Corp) did not consume detectable quantities of oxygen (Figure 2A, solid diamonds). Patients were routinely followed up at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgical procedures. Autofluorescence imaging (FAF) and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) were performed three weeks after surgery in case of air or SF6 tamponade and six weeks after surgery in case of C3F8 tamponade.
