shank Explanation: I have indeed found 'stilt' for this ... but in patents. Nuff said. Elsewhere one finds 'shank'. The short extension, or shank, between the platform and fir-tree [see image] fixing in the disc allows space for cooling-air entry to blade, may control blade vibration modes and heat transfer to disc rim https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbine_blade Task I1 led to the selection of electrochemical machining (ECM) to generate the blade airfoil and shank shapes followed by conventional grinding for the platform and firtree areas. https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/19890009116/downloads/19... It makes sense that 'shank', for turbine blades, should be taken from the terminology of propellors: Blade Shank The rounded portion of a propeller blade between the root and the airfoil section https://www.skillscommons.org/bitstream/handle/taaccct/2033/... The portion of a propeller blade that is nearest to the hub is referred to as the blade shank, and the portion furthest from the hub is called the blade tip.
