Capitated provider units (also called Joint Venture or JV)
a group of physicians who practice at the same hospital and who have agreed to work together (sometimes together with their hospital) to manage the care provided to the HMO members in their area. Members who choose one of the physicians in the Joint Venture are automatically assigned to it. The Joint Venture is then paid a monthly fee (the "capitation") for each member and is financially responsible for all medical care provided to the member. Because the Joint Venture is financially responsible, it has a broader role in financial and management functions.
