I'm just getting started and translating a few birth certificates. I was wondering if anyone else that does birth certificate translation in the U.S. could give me a brief step by step run down of the procedure they follow once a client has decided to accept your bid for the translation.

Charge up front

It's best to charge up front for personal documents such as birth and marriage certificates, educational documents, etc., normally from private individuals whose reliability may not be easy to confirm.
Is that the procedure you were looking for?

Send translation and invoice simultaneously
Sep 23, 2005
Assuming you did not get payment in advance, I recommend sending the translation and the invoice on the same email and requesting a confirmation of receipt. The client has an interest in receiving his/her translation and accepts the (bitter?) pill with it. Otherwise, a few clients suddenly forget they have an email address after receiving the work.
