Keep your mind open or at least try as hard as u can, though some may not be as friendly as you think. Some unbiased opinions are found in this thread no matter what...... Try your humor, it works for me. And for the record, a lot of VMs have been long complaining about the lack of qualified translators working from Chinese into other languages. Same for the whole CCJK markets & Arabic & rarer pairs. Most translators working in ZH>EN are actually native Chinese living in a foreign land. No matter how idiomatic their translations are, it doesn't change the fact that they are non-natives. William Yang wrote: And it doesn't make your English better than me. mine....

[Edited at 2022-03-08 07:28 GMT] Google Translate says: 'Is it so interesting? Who am I offending? They are all making money to eat, do you have a conscience?' William Yang wrote: I am not native, but my English is clear. And that is the point I was making when I said "you don't know what you don't know". You obviously think your English is good. If I were proofing it I would have to be on the phone to you every other sentence to ask you what you were trying to say. This is not a personal criticism. You have the level you have. If you tell potential clients that you need a proofreader to work on your text before submission that is not a strong selling point. It shows that you single yourself out from among the many translators working in the pair as someone whose language skills (Chinese>English) are not up to the task. Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. If not, you will damage your professional reputation sooner or later.
