stay-wire insulation Explanation: An insulator in a stay wire or guy wire is under tension if it is connected at either end. Most materials have greater compressive strength than tensile strength because tension is acting to pull the material apart while compressive forces are tending to push the material together. Many insulators for use in stay wire are made so that tension on the wire is converted to a compressive force as shown in the photograph of an egg insulator, often made of porcelein, ceramic or glass. https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-6403e5aea7aba886cb0f84... https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-433997651e9ecac6875dba...
