My sense is that this is more about a powering off or shutdown phase rather than the physical closing of something, but there's not enough context to know for sure. Any sensors experts out there?

Closing phase Ive just asked a person who writes the interactive panels for industrial robots both in Italian, English and Spanish and he tells me that this is "È come quando chiudi uno sportello, durante la chiusura, quindi "closing phase" as there are other events that occur during this PHASE not while closed as it clearly states - after a kickback/counter hit during the *** closing phase ***, or in environments where air turbulence tends to open lighter "sportelli - lids/hatches" Whatever the lid is depends on other context or diagrams.

You haven't said what this is about or what the sensor is, but the "riparo" is some kind of lid or cover that opens and closes.

You're welcome! I wonder if "riparo" and "custodia" are the same thing.

There's not much context to go on, because these are just short little blurbs in a newsletter, but yes, the term base gives riparo as "guard" and the context confirms that it is some sort of lid that opens and closes. Further delving into the client's website seems to indicate that it is actually talking about physical closing, so you are probably right, although I would word it "while closed" rather than in the "closed phase". Thanks for commenting.
Their term base gives "custodia" as "housing." So, I'm assuming that the riparo is the lid/guard on the housing.
