XXX as a litigant or Counsel of 'Record': has entered an appearance

Entry of appearance on the, dare I say British Isles including Ireland, is equivalent to filing an acknowledgement of service. Default of appearance risks entry of an automatic default judgment : Scots law > judgement.

In my experience, advocates of the Plain 'Anti-Jabber' English Legal Campaign are either non-lawyers or UK Solicitors, bogus or real who have barely scraped through Law Finals and have an axe to grind.
Example sentence:

before representing a client at court during a civil case, a lawyer must first file an entry of appearance asking the court to enter the lawyer's appearance on behalf of the client.

I think this phrase is simply a way of introducing the facts that will follow, and leading the way for the content of the details of this appeal. I don't think it hurts to leave in some of the Italian formality of the text.

For example,
"it has been established that the grounds of the appeal are to be ....etc"
or
"it is acknowledged that the..."
