brassage

French to English Tech/Engineering Geology production of ocher
Il a eu le premier l’idée de séparer le principe colorant de sa charge sableuse en mélangeant eau et minerai par ***brassage***. Le sable plus lourd se déposait en premier, l’ocre plus légère surnageait et se déposait plus loin
dans un bassin creusé dans le sol.

My first thought was to use some form of "mixing", but right before the term brassage, you have "en mélangeant"... any ideas?

I think it has to do with stirring, in a way that favours precipitation of particles.

I think this has to do with separation by centrifugation. In this light, I think stirring is more appropriate.
