thank you
disagree sirgay (X) : it just means unattractively thin and bony./// you would be surprised how strong some scrawny little ladies are...

yes, but scrawny babies are unhealthy babies by definition plus its a good contrast with the rest of the sentence
agree Judith Hehir : Excellent translation.

thank you!
agree Rachel Douglas : With "little thing." I think "sickly" or "feeble" would work well with that.

neutral sirgay (X) : it's ok, but хлипкий is more like fragile, flimsy in russian and sickly doesn't juxtapose with hefty very well.../// хлипкий is not necessarily sickly in russian...

Well, the kid was a sickly, scrawny, feeble little thing, and grew up to be a hefty muscleman. That's the idea, with whichever words.
agree Rachel Douglas : I vote for "sickly", but also like "little thing": "sickly little thing". Interesting that Ozhegov says хлипкий is like хилый, which for sure could be "sickly". Of course "flimsy" doesn't apply to people. Sorry to attach so many opinions to a vote.
