Discussion

Anton Konashenok Sep 8, 2009:
The problem does exist, but is it significant? Since the best graduates are obviously recruited to junior positions, it's the entire faculty that gets optimized anyway, so the lack of precision in the translation is masked out by the real state of things.
Michael Korovkin Sep 8, 2009:
there's a little problem here: teaching assistants/tutors and the so–called "instructors"/"senior instructors" (US,Canada) are also faculty and yet not "professors" – even in the lose north-american treatment of the term. "Graduate Faculty" won't do either, because it will leave out "assistant professors" (US)/"lecturers"(UK) who are not teaching grad courses but are "professors" (at least in the US and the "colonies"). What to do? I don't know. Hope, I'm not nitpicking.

agree Michael Korovkin : reluctantly agree, for although it sounds awkward, all the alternatives are misleading
