Discussion

Joel Schaefer Aug 8, 2009:
It's not an organ museum - it has all types of musical instruments, not just organs or organillos.
Jenni Lukac (X) Aug 3, 2009:
A thought: These entries are not incorrect, but as organology is also "The branch of biology that deals with the structure and function of organs", many organ museums use the title Organological Music Musem" or, simply, Museum of Organs or "Organ Museum".

agree philgoddard : There is actually an English word organology, but I don't think people would know what it means.

musical instrument museum

This is the clearest explanation. While "organological" is correct English, it is obscure to everyone but musicologists, and very academic. I've been a working classical musician for 30 years, university trained, and no one I know uses organological. "Ethnic" should be avoided too, as it unnecessarily suggests a hierarchy of European vs. non-European. Other museums of musical instruments are called:

National Music Museum, University of South Dakota
Musée de la musique, Paris
