I have a licensed copy of ABBYY Scan to Office 1.0 which I used for many years with Windows 7 but which now does not appear to work with Windows 10. I was wondering if anyone had found a way of getting this app to work under Windows 10? And if not, whether anyone could recommend a more economical alternative to ABBYY Fine Reader, of which I am now using a trial version, but which seems expensive. Especially when I had already purchased a perfectly good product from them... Also many users try new and run old software under a virtual machine or even several: DOS, 3.11/W95/XP/Vista/W7/8/10 of 32/64-bit, any Linux distro, OS/2, or even MacOS--whatever your real and virtual hardware can handle. Why, some geeks both for fun and use even run virtual clusters of such VMs. | | | VIP9N Local time: 22:20 Russian to English + ...

Ok, I downloaded the Russian OCR app - problem is that it is of course all in Russian"! Googling the app, I came across: https://en.softonic.com/download/cognitive-openocr-cuneiform/windows/post-download?ex=DSK-1944.2 which appeared to install OK but does not appear in my programmes list. Freenote OCR keeps getting automatically deleted from my Chrome download folder when I download it, No idea why - possibly this is suspect? NAPS2 looks promising at the outset. It offers a mass of languages to download. However when I scanned a sample document (in German) it failed to OCR it at all. Whether this is down to me or the programme I am not yet certain but on first inspection, it just does not function. ABBYY Scan to Office meanwhile would not run under Compatibility Mode. I downloaded the app as a single .exe file and Windows was looking for a setup file. As an aside, I also tried installing MS Works 7.0 in Compatibility Modem, with no luck. I will watch the Compatibility Mode video again tomorrow and try all the steps again, just to make sure. As for ABBYY, I will have a go at installing a Windows 7 Virtual machine and running it under that. Otherwise, time is money and if I am just getting nowhere I may as well just suck it up and pay UKP 105 to Abbyy for Finereader, albeit grudgingly. | | | AnnaSCHTR United States Local time: 14:20 English to Czech + ... Abbyy is worth its price | Mar 10, 2020 |
After my good old Adobe Acrobat finally stopped working in Windows 10 I tried several free or lower-cost options but eventually (i.e., after wasting quite a bit of time) I decided to bite the bullet and buy Abbyy FineReader. It is a tiny bit slow when opening files but otherwise it's been great. And it paid for itself, so to speak, the same day I bought it. | | | There is a FREE Online solution | Mar 11, 2020 |
For the benefit of others - there is a FREE online solution, not perfect but it worked for me for a small document I needed to convert from PDF: https://www.onlineocr.net/ All the best! | | | Andy S United Kingdom Local time: 20:20 German to English TOPIC STARTER Thanks Lubosh | Mar 12, 2020 |
