No, and am not planning to Feb 22, 2013

If I am available for work when I am not in the office and I am in my country of residence then I use my smart phone as my "link to the world" as a modem, otherwise abroad, I have my USB stick.

If anyone wants anything from me and I do not have my laptop with me, then they will have to wait until I have my computer as I cannot work with such a small device, except for making calls.

No - I'm rarely away from my desk Feb 22, 2013

I don't have much use for a smartphone because during the work week I'm glued to my desk translating. On week-ends, I set my own schedule and don't want to be interrupted.

I can't imagine discussing a job without my computer in front of me.

Most of my projects last over several days or even weeks. I prefer not to take small jobs because the flurry of communications uses up a disproportionate amount of my time.

That also represents my own position. If I am available for work, then I will be at my desk with my laptop. On the rare occasions when I am not at my desk during the working day, then I certainly don't want a mobile phone, far less a smart phone intruding upon and eroding the quality of my life outside work.

it depends on what it means Feb 22, 2013

I use my smartphone for the following work-related things:

1) answer when a client call
2) check emails and attachments and reply to clients when I am not at my desk

Checking email Feb 22, 2013

I very occasionally check my email on my Smartphone if I happen to go out for a few hours. Even more rarely a client actually phones me on it. I don't use it for anything else work-related.

No, but I use a tablet Feb 22, 2013

I use my Kindle Fire HD to check emails quite frequently and I can peruse documents/pdfs on it which allow me to give an accurate quote (usually when I'm on the move/out the house because otherwise I can just use my laptop).

it would be useful for me Feb 22, 2013

to be able to check e mails more often without having to stay in the office when there is no work. I sometimes miss good opportunities while I'm just out for a few hours.

Yes, to check my email Feb 22, 2013

I sometimes need to go out during office hours but with my BlackBerry I can receive my work related emails and reply almost immediately. It's a great help for me.

Comes in quite handy when I 've got to go to the bank, for example, and am out of office for a couple of hours. I usually only reply if I'm available or not, I don't use it to calculate a quote, though.
It also serves as a backup for my internet connection, which is more important even, now that I think about it.

when I am out and about I use mine for email, sending and receiving files for projects, quotes, etc. But I hardly ever use it for calls at all!
