Source text - Romanian CERTFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLISH (CAE)
University of Cambridge ESOL (part of UCLES) provides examinations ii English for speakers of other languages.
CAE is a general proficiency examination at Level C1 in the Council of Europe Common European Framework. It is at level 2 in the UK National Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
CAE is recognized as fulfilling English language entry requirements by many higher education institutions and corporate bodies across the world.
The examination has five papers: Reading, Writing, English in Use, Listening, Speaking.
Performance in CAE is indicated as follows:
Grade A (Very good)
Grade B (Good)
Grade C (Pass)
Successful performance in CAE indicates a competent level in English. Successful candidates can communicate appropriately and with sensitivity and have the capacity to deal with unfamiliar topics.
The Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) has developed a framework which covers six levels of language proficiency aligned to the Council of Europe Common European Framework. Research carried out by ALTE has shown what language learners can typically do at each level.
The table below gives some examples at CAE level of typical general ability plus ability in each of the skill areas and in a range of contexts.
Typical abilities Listening and Speaking Reading and Writing
Overall general ability CAN contribute effectively to meetings and seminars within own area of work or keep up a casual conversation with a good degree of fluency, coping with abstract expressions. CAN read quickly enough to cope with an academic course, and CAN take reasonably accurate notes in meetings or write a piece of work which shows an ability to communicate.
Social & Tourist CAN pick up nuances of meaning/opinion.
CAN keep up conversations of casual nature for an extended period of time and discuss abstract/cultural topics with good degree of fluency and range of expressions. CAN understand complex opinions/arguments as expressed in serious newspapers.
CAN write most letters (s)he is likely to be asked to do; such errors as occur will not prevent understanding of the message.
Work CAN follow discussions and argument with only occasional need for clarification, employing good compensation strategies to overcome inadequacies.
CAN deal with unpredictable questions. CAN understand the general meaning of more complex articles without serious misunderstanding.
CAN, given enough time, write a report that communicates the desired message.
Study CAN follow up questions by probing for more detail.
CAN make critical remarks/express disagreement without causing offence. CAN scan texts for relevant information, and grasp main topic of text.
CAN write a piece of work whose message can be followed throughout.
Any alteration to this certificate renders it invalid and use of an altered certificate could constitute a criminal offence.

A ┼ symbol next to the candidate’s grade indicates that the candidate was exempt from satisfying the full range of assessment objectives in the examination.
Translation - English ATESTAT DE LIMBA ENGLEZA AVANSAT (CAE)
Sindicatul ESOL al Universitatii Cambridge (parte integranta al UCLES) asigura examene in limba engleza pentru vorbitorii de alte limbi straine.
CAE este o examinare de competenta generala la Nivelul C1 al Cadrului comun european al Consiliului Europei. Acesta reprezinta Nivelul 2 al Cadrul National Englez al Calificarilor, dupa cum este prevazut de catre Autoritatea Calificarilor si a Planului de Invatamant (QCA).
CAE este recunoscut ca indeplinind cerintele de limba engleza ale institutiilor de invatamant superior si ale corporatiilor din intreaga lume.
Examinarea cuprinde cinci categorii de testare: Citit, Scris, Engleza uzuala, Ascultat, Vorbit.
Eficienta in cadrul CAE este indicata dupa cum urmeaza:
Calificativul A (Foarte bine)
Calificativul B (Bine)
Calificativul C (Satisfacator)
O buna eficienta in cadrul CAE indica un nivel competent de limba engleza. Candidatii care reusesc, pot comunica in mod corespunzator si nuantat si au capacitatea de a trata si subiecte care nu le sunt familiare.
Asociatia Examinatorilor de Limbi Straine din Europa (ALTE) a realizat un cadru care acopera sase niveluri de eficienta in utilizarea unei limbi straine, aliniate Cadrului comun european al Consiliului Europei. Cercetarile efectuate de catre ALTE au aratat cum persoanele care invata limbi straine se pot descurca in cadrul fiecarui nivel.
Tabelul de mai jos ofera cateva exemple la nivelul CAE de aptitudine tipica generala, dar si de aptitudine in cadrul fiecarei categorii de testare si intr-o serie de contexte.
Aptitudini tipice Ascultat si Vorbit Citit si Scris
Aptitudine generala POATE contribui efectiv in cadrul intalnirilor si seminariilor in cadrul propriului domeniu de activitate sau poate purta o conversatie neoficiala cu un bun nivel de fluenta, poate face fata expresiilor abstracte. POATE citi suficient de repede pentru a face fata unui curs academic si POATE lua notite suficient de corecte in cadrul intalnirilor sau poate realiza o lucrare care demonstreaza capacitate de comunicare.
Social si Turistic POATE intelege nuante de inteles/opinie.
POATE purta o conversatie de natura neoficiala pentru o perioada mai lunga de timp si poate discuta subiecte abstracte / culturale cu un bun nivel de fluenta si o serie de expresii. POATE intelege opinii / argumente complexe, dupa cum sunt exprimate in ziare de specialitate.
POATE scrie majoritatea scrisorilor care i se pot solicita sa le redacteze; posibilele greseli care pot aparea nu afecteaza intelegerea mesajului.
La locul de munca POATE urmari o discutie sau o dezbatere, avand rareori nevoie de explicatii, utilizand bune strategii de compensare pentru preintampinarea unor discrepante.
POATE raspunde unor intrebari neprevazute. POATE intelege sensul general al articolelor mai complexe, fara a avea nelamuriri importante.
POATE scrie, avand suficient timp, un raport care sa comunice mesajul dorit.
La scoala POATE raspunde la intrebari prin cautarea de mai multe detalii.
POATE face remarci critice / exprima dezacordul fara a ofensa. POATE parcurge texte pentru a gasirea de informatii relevante si poate intelege subiectul principal al textului.
POATE redacta o lucrare al carei mesaj poate fi urmarit in intregime.
Orice modificare adusa acestui atestat inseamna anularea acestuia, iar utilizarea unui atestat modificat reprezinta o contraventie.
Daca exista vreun dubiu asupra detaliilor prezentate in certificat, va rugam sa contactati centrul local Cambridge ESOL pentru consultanta in privinta procedurilor de verificare.
Un simbol ┼ alaturi de calificativul candidatului indica faptul ca acesta a fost scutit de la indeplinirea tuturor obiectivelor de evaluare din cadrul examinarii.
