My name is William Cheyne, and I am a native English speaker and professionally trained linguist based in Monmouthshire, UK.

As a lifelong bibliophile and linguist, I enjoyed studying translation so much at Durham University that I soon realised that I'd found my career path. I liken translation to neatly reordering a jigsaw so that all the pieces perfectly reflect the original picture. It is with this mindset that I always undertake my translations.

In addition to translating from French and Italian to English, I also employ my excellent English writing skills as a proofreader and copyeditor (monolingual and translation), and my speciality areas are now wide-ranging. The areas I work in most are: legal and official documents, financial and fiscal texts, commercial/business documentation, touristic and promotional literature, energy/environment and insurance content.

The rationale behind my various chosen specialisms is manifold, but in each one I always relish the challenge of researching wide-ranging concepts and complex terminology, and faithfully rendering them in plain English. I also enjoy conveying cultural elements with cultural sensitivity, bridging the gap between individuals who would otherwise be unable to communicate. Opening up doors in this way is in fact one of the most exciting aspects of my work. All this being said, I am equally happy to work on any other textual genres and topic areas that interest me, such as academic writing and journalist texts.

Over the last ten years I have built a solid network of relationships with direct clients and agency clients of varying size and scope in the UK and mainland Europe.
