Source text - English The Coming of the Ship
Almustafa, the chosen and the beloved, who was a dawn unto his own day, had waited twelve years in the city of Orphalese for his ship that was to return and bear him back to the isle of his birth.
And in the twelfth year, on the seventh day of Ielool, the month of reaping, he climbed the hill without the city walls and looked seaward; and he beheld the ship coming with the mist.
Then the gates of his heart were flung open, and his joy flew far over the sea. And he closed his eyes and prayed in the silences of his soul.
But he descended the hill, a sadness came upon him, and he thought in his heart: How shall I go in peace and without sorrow? Nay, not without a wound in the spirit shall I leave this city.
Long were the days of pain I have spent within its walls, and long were the nights of aloneness; and who can depart from his pain and his aloneness without regret?
Too many fragments of the spirit have I scattered in these streets, and too many are the children of my longing that walk naked among these hills, and I cannot withdraw from them without a burden and an ache.
It is not a garment I cast off this day, but a skin that I tear with my own hands. Nor is it a thought I leave behind me, but a heart made sweet with hunger and with thirst.
Yet I cannot tarry longer. The sea that calls all things unto her calls me, and I must embark.
Translation - Urdu جہاز کی آمد
جو چنیدہ اور ہردل عزیز تھا، جو خود اپنے دن کی سحرتھا، اس المصطفی نے شہرِ یتیماں میں اپنے اس جہاز کا بارہ سال انتظارکیا تھا، جسے واپس آنا تھا اور اسے واپس اپنی پیدائش کے جزیرے پر لے جانا تھا۔
بارہویں سال کے فصلوں کی کٹائی کے مہینے، ستمبرکے ساتویں دن، وہ شہر کی حصار سے باہر کی پہارٹی پر چڑھا اور سمندر کی طرف دیکھا؛ اسے ہلکی سی دھند کے ساتھ اپنے آتے ہوئے جہاز کا دیدار ہوا۔
تب اس کے دل کے دروازے بغیر پس و پیش وا ہو گئے، اور اس کی مسرت سمندر میں دور دور تک لہلہا اٹھی۔ اوراس نے اپنی آنکھیں بند کیں اور اپنی روح کی خاموشیوں میں عبادت کی۔
لیکن جیسے ہی وہ پہاڑی سے اترنے لگا، اس پر اداسی طاری ہوگئی، اور اس نے اپنے دل میں سوچا:
میں یہاں سے اطمینان کے ساتھ اور غم کے بغیر کیسے جا سکتا ہوں؟ نہیں؛ روح میں ایک ضربِ شدید نہ لئے ہوئے میں یہاں سے رخصت نہیں ہو سکتا۔
اس شہر کی حصار میں میرے بِتائے ہوئے درد بھرے دن لمبے تھے، اور تنہائی کی راتیں طویل تھیں؛ بھلا کون اپنے درد اور اپنی تنہائی سے بلا افسوس روانہ ہو سکتا ہے؟
ان گلیوں میں، میں نے اپنی روح کے بے شمار ٹکڑے بکھیرے ہیں؛ اور میری آرزؤں کے بچّے بے شمار ہیں، جو ان پہاڑیوں میں ننگے گھومتے ہیں؛ اور ایک بوجھ اور ایک درد نہ لئے ان سے میں جدا ہو نہیں سکتا۔
یہ کوئی کپڑا نہیں جسے میں آج اتار پھینکنے جا رہا ہوں؛ بلکہ یہ ایک کھال ہے جسے میں اپنے ہاتھوں سے ادھیڑ رہا ہوں۔
نہ ہی یہ کوئی خیال ہے جسے میں اپنے پیچھے چھوڑنے جا رہا ہوں؛ بلکہ یہ بھوک اور پیاس سے شیریں ہوا ایک دل ہے۔

Source text - English Why Socialism?
Let us first consider the question from the point of view of scientific knowledge. It might appear that there are no essential methodological differences between astronomy and economics: scientists in both fields attempt to discover laws of general acceptability for a circumscribed group of phenomena in order to make the interconnection of these phenomena as clearly understandable as possible. But in reality such methodological differences do exist. The discovery of general laws in the field of economics is made difficult by the circumstance that observed economic phenomena are often affected by many factors which are very hard to evaluate separately. In addition, the experience which has accumulated since the beginning of the so-called civilized period of human history has—as is well known—been largely influenced and limited by causes which are by no means exclusively economic in nature. For example, most of the major states of history owed their existence to conquest. The conquering peoples established themselves, legally and economically, as the privileged class of the conquered country. They seized for themselves a monopoly of the land ownership and appointed a priesthood from among their own ranks.

क्या किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए समाजवाद के विषय पर विचार व्यक्त करना उचित है कि जो आर्थिक और सामाजिक मुद्दों का विशेषज्ञ नहीं है? मैं यह मानता हूँ कि अनेक कारणों की वजह से यह (उचित) है।
हमें इस प्रश्न पर पहले वैज्ञानिक ज्ञान की दृष्टि से विचार करना चाहिए। ऐसा प्रकट हो सकता है कि खगोल विज्ञान और अर्थशास्त्र के बीच कोई प्रणाली संबंधी मौलिक अंतर नहीं है: वैज्ञानिक दोनों क्षेत्रों में तथ्यों के एक सीमित समूह के लिए सामान्य स्वीकार्यता के कानूनों को खोजने का प्रयास करते हैं ताकि वे इन तथ्यों के एक दूसरे के संबंध को संभव रूप से ज्यादा से ज्यादा स्पष्ट बना सकें।
