SEA LIFE: 1 million visitors for the Aquarium of Rome
30 large tanks, 1 million litres of water, 5000 specimens, 100 aquatic species and
a safeguard programme of our seas.
Rome 19th January 2012 – Over 200 jobs, 700 parking spaces, an estimated 1 million visitors a year, an area of 14 thousand square metres, 80 million euros invested (15 million euros for the SEA LIFE Aquarium itself) and an induced consumption of 78 euros per GDP for every additional attendance (contrasting the national average of 68 euros).
These are just some of the figures of SEA LIFE Aquarium of Rome emerged today during the official press conference held at the Campidoglio Promoteca Hall in the presence of Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno, the Minister for Regional Affairs, Tourism and Sport Piero Gnudi and the managers of SEA LIFE Aquarium of Rome.
The Aquarium, whose opening is scheduled in June 2012, is currently under construction under the artificial lake of the Eur district. It will cover an area made up of halls and rooms, watertight, sealed in an enveloping structure of transparent acrylic. The 30 large tanks filled with over 1 million litres of water will host 5000 specimens belonging to more than 100 aquatic species from all seas: seahorses and starfish, stingrays, jellyfish and fascinating sharks.
During the 90 minutes estimated for visiting SEA LIFE Aquarium of Rome, visitors can stroll through a 360 degrees oceanic tunnel, attending exciting presentations and feeding sessions. They could even touch crabs and starfish in interactive tanks.
Alongside the traditional SEA LIFE Aquarium, there will be EXPO, an area where it will develop, in addition to other services, the exhibition area dedicated to the fish robot, scientific and environmental education projects, and the “Auditorium”, where movies will be screened in stereoscopic 3D.
The Aquarium of Rome, with a value of 80 million euros (including water park, conference halls, a museum, shopping areas, services, restaurants and an underground parking area) is bound to be the largest aquarium in Italy, among the three most important in Europe and it has already become the most attractive concept of the II Tourist Pole in Rome.
