Source text - English The study tested sense of coherence (SOC; Antonovsky, 1987), coping strategies, and test anxiety as predictors of test performance in 216 1st-year undergraduates. The students attended 3 obligatory courses and completed inventories assessing SOC, coping, and test anxiety during the final session of the 2nd semester; their grades on the final examination were recorded. The results showed SOC to be negatively related to test anxiety, whereas emotion-focused coping and avoidance were positively related to it. Problem-focused coping contributed positively to performance on the test, and avoidance coping adversely affected test grades. The data suggest that test anxiety is minimally associated with performance grades, and the 2 measures are related somewhat differentially to coping strategies and SOC.
The present study investigated sense of coherence (SOC) as a protective factor among targets of workplace bullying. A hypothesis that strong SOC lessens the relationship between exposure to bullying and symptoms of posttraumatic stress was tested in a cross-sectional sample of 221 self-labeled targets of workplace bullying. The findings showed that SOC offers most protective benefits to targets exposed to low levels of bullying, whereas the benefits of SOC diminish as bullying becomes more severe. The results support previous findings that workplace bullying is a traumatic experience for those exposed to it, regardless of the target's available coping resources.
Translation - Latvian Šajā pētījumā tika testētas loģiskās domāšanas spējas (SOC; Antonovsky, 1987), rīcības stratēģijas un testēšanas radīts uztraukums kā testa snieguma noteicēji 216 pēdēja kursa studentu vidū. Studenti apmeklēja 3 obligātus mācību kursus un pabeidza sarakstus ar novērtējumiem par SOC, rīcību un testa uztraukumu 2. semestra nobeiguma sesijas laikā; viņu nobeiguma sesijas atzīmes tika pierakstītas. Rezultāti pierādīja, ka SOC rada negatīvo ietekmi uz testa uztraukumu, turpretim uz emocijām orientēta rīcība un izvairīšanās radīja pozitīvo ietekmi uz to. Uz problēmu orientēta rīcība pozitīvi veicināja testa sniegumu, bet izvairīšanās rīcība radīja pretējo efektu uz testa atzīmēm. Šie dati liecina par to, ka testa radīts uztraukums ir minimāli saistīts ar snieguma atzīmēm, un šie 2 kritēriji ir atšķirīgā veidā saistīti ar rīcības stratēģijām un SOC.
Šis pētījums izmeklēja loģiskuma izjūtu (SOC) kā aizsargājošo faktoru psiholoģiskā terora upuru vidū darbavietās. Hipotēze par to, ka stiprs SOC samazina sakarības starp pakļaušanos psiholoģiskajam teroram un posttraumatiskā stresa simptomiem, tika testēta uz šķērsgriezuma parauga, kas kopumā veidojās no 221 psiholoģiskā terora upuriem, kuri paši atzinuši sevi par tādiem. Izmeklējuma rezultāti parādīja, ka SOC sniedz vislielākas aizsardzības iespējas tiem upuriem, kuri ir pakļauti zema līmeņa psiholoģiskajam teroram, turpretim, psiholoģiskajam teroram kļustot daudz nopietnākam, SOC dotas iespējas samazinās. Šie rezultāti atbalsta iepriekšējo izmeklējumu sniegtus faktus par to, ka psiholoģiskais terors darbavietās rada traumatisko pieredzi cilvēkiem, kuri tiek tam pakļauti, neatkarīgi no iespējamas palīdzības avotiem, kuri ir pieejami upuriem.

2. Sejas modalitātes izmantošanai atsevišķi ņemtai piemīt dabisks trūkums – persona noveco un mainās, salīdzinot ar iepriekš fiksēto sejas attēlu, kas tiek izmantots atpazīšanai. 1. Not all business processes involve handling of all modalities. It means that the probability of using the system service within the framework of a specific process is higher if the number of handled modalities increases;
2. There is a natural disadvantage of using the face modality as a separate feature – a person becomes older and changes its look in comparison with the previously taken face image which is used for face detection. Thus, if there exist several modalities in the system, then it is possible to compensate quality decrease of the face modality by using some other modalities in search requests;
3. For finger and palm modalities there exists a relatively infrequent, but still a probable risk of complete losing their actual verifiability in those cases when a person loses one or both hands. Thus, if these modalities are combined in the system with the face modality, then it is still possible to perform identity verification by using the face modality even in case of complete losing person’s hands and/or fingers.
4. The face modality has a peculiar technological feature consisting in the fact that the possibility of involving pupils of the eyes of a person being identified (a person, whose identity needs to be verified) is mandatory for the application of this modality. Eye pupils are the points of reference for the estimation of face geometry and other parameters which are relevant for searching. Though this feature makes it significantly more difficult to use the face modality in the identification of a corpse (if the system supports only the face modality), there still exist special algorithms which can be used to reduce the above mentioned effect.

Source text - English America has long been characterized as the land of opportunity, particularly the opportunity to make money. And New York is a city dedicated to making you spend it. Even the shrines dedicated to God seem dwarfed by those dedicated to Mammon. Surprisingly, the lotus flower of Buddhism has put down roots in this unlikely setting.
Chuang Yen Monastery is in Carmel, upstate New York.
The monastery is actually a complex of buildings dedicated to Buddhism.
Kuan Yin Hall was built in the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty, which lasted from the seventh to the tenth century AD, despite the fact that this particular Chinese dynasty initially welcomed Buddhism and then pillaged the monasteries when funds ran low. The Kuan Yin Hall was completed in 1985.
The centerpiece of the shrine is a 2 metre tall coloured ceramic statue of a Bodisattva or Buddhist saint dated to the Ming Dynasty some 700 years ago.
There is an architectural simplicity to the design of all the buildings.
The pilgrims must leave their shoes at the door as a mark of respect for the secrete place within. All the buildings in the compound owe their architectural style to the Tang Dynasty.
The great Buddha Hall has a similar design. It is 26 metres high, contains 2,230 square metres of space and can fit 2000 people. So how was it constructed?
There are no internal pillars supporting the ceiling as we might expect to find in a building of this style. This is possible by using a glue-lam structure, made of layers of timber, glued and compressed together. The result is a spacious, unobstructed interior that reflects the spirit of the Chuang Yen Monastery.
The focal point is the largest Buddhist statue in the Western Hemisphere, the Buddha Vairocana. 11.5 metres tall it took 8 years to create and the building had to be erected around it. Encircling the huge statue are 10,000 smaller Buddhas on a Lotus Terrace.
And surrounding the pedestal of the great Buddha are 12 bas-reliefs of Bodisattvas.
As a backdrop, a mural, 32 metres long covers the wall of the Lotus Terrace. It shows scenes from the Pure Land or Western Paradise of Amitabha Buddha. The monks at the monastery maintain the link with Siddhartha Gautama, the man who became Buddha. Their chanting purges them of pre-occupation, freeing them from the distractions of the ego, allowing them to transcend the rational mind in the pursuit of enlightenment, an awareness of the cosmos within and without.
The Chuang Yen Monastery is a treasure house of art and architecture. But it’s all a far cry from the Bodhi tree. Buddhism is full of paradoxes. How does a religion that began by repudiating rituals, questions, prayer, and the idea of a personal God, end up embracing all of them?
And how is it that Buddhism today, flourishes in every Asian country except one, India, the land of its birth?
Translation - Russian Долгое время Америка считалась страной возможностей, и особенно – возможностей делать деньги. Нью-Йорк всегда был городом, заставляющим тратить деньги. Храмы, посвященные Богу, здесь кажутся крошечными по сравнению с храмами, посвященными богатству. Но, как ни удивительно, лотос буддизма смог укорениться в этой неблагодатной почве.
Монастырь Чуань Йен расположен в Кармеле, штат Нью-Йорк.
Монастырь представляет собой комплекс культовых буддистских построек.
«Зал Гуань Инь» выполнен в архитектурном стиле династии Тан, длившейся с седьмого по десятый век нашей эры. Но именно эта китайская династия, вначале приветствовавшая буддизм, опустошала монастыри в то время, когда ресурсы страны истощались. «Зал Гуань Инь» построен в 1985 году.
В центре храма находится двухметровая раскрашенная керамическая статуя Бодисаттвы – буддистского святого, относящаяся к династии Мин (около 700 лет назад).
Все постройки монастыря отличаются архитектурной простотой.
Паломники должны оставить свою обувь возле входа в знак уважения к тому, что скрыто внутри храма. Архитектурный стиль всего комплекса построек относится к династии Тан.
Большой «Зал Будды», высотой 26 метров и площадью 2 230 квадратных метров, вмещающий 2 000 человек, построен по такому же образцу. Как устроено это здание ?
Здесь нет внутренних колонн, поддерживающих потолок, характерных для построек данного стиля. Слои бревен, склеенные и прижатые друг к другу, образуют клеено-ламинированную конструкцию. Это - просторное и свободное помещение, отражающее дух всего монастыря Чуань Йен.
Смысловым центром монастыря является величайшая буддистская статуя в Западном полушарии - Будда Вайрокана, высотой 11,5 метров, которая строилась в течение 8 лет. Вокруг нее были сооружены постройки. Статую окружают 10 000 маленьких Будд на террасе Лотоса.
Постамент огромного Будды окружен 12 барельефами с изображениями Бодисаттв.
Стена террасы Лотоса покрыта фоновыми фресками длиной 32 метра, представляющими образы Западного рая или Чистой Земли Будды Амитабхи. Монахи монастыря подерживают связь с Сиддхартой Гаутамой -человеком, который стал Буддой. Пение очищает их души от суетности, предохраняет от рассеянности «эго», позволяя им выйти за пределы рационального мышления в поисках просветления - познания космоса в себе и вокруг себя.
Монастырь Чуань Йен – истинная сокровищница искусства и архитектуры, но сейчас он имеет мало общего с деревом Боддхи. Буддизм поистине парадоксален. Как могла религия, начавшаяся с отвержения ритуалов, вопросов, молитв и идеи Бога-личности, вместить все это в себя?
И разве не удивительно, что сегодня буддизм процветает во всех странах Азии, кроме одной – Индии, страны его зарождения?

Source text - Russian Рижский Домский собор является одним из крупнейших и старейших культовых строений в Латвии и Балтийском регионе со времен средневековья. Собор сочетает в себе черты романского стиля, ранней готики, барокко и модерна. Исторически сложилось так, что Рижский Домский собор был центральным собором части Ливонии, теперешней Латвии, Эстонии и части территории Литвы, до падения Ливонии в 1561 году.
Сегодня Рижский Домский собор не только сохранил историческую, архитектурную, художественную и культурную ценность прошлых времен, но и активно участвует в процессах духовной и общественной жизни Латвии.
Рижский Домский собор с имеющимися художественными ценностями является важной частью мирового культурного наследия, а также культурным памятником государственного значения Латвии, который включен в список памятников культурного наследия, охраняемых государством (государственный охранный № 6537).
Домский ансамбль – это культовое место национального значения, расположенное в историческом центре Риги и включен в Список всемирного наследия Организации Объединенных Наций по вопросам образования, науки и культуры.
Домский ансамбль был включен в список 100 архитектурных шедевров, находящихся под угрозой, «Фонда мировых памятников» в 2006 году.
Первый камень строительства Домского ансамбля был заложен 25 июля 1211 года. Строительные работы проходили на протяжении всего 13 века, так как в ходе строительных работ неоднократно изменялась архитектурная концепция ансамбля. Главное качество первых строительных фаз ансамбля Домской церкви и монастыря, которые сохранились до сегодняшнего дня, это ясность и читаемость составных частей геометрических форм огромного строительного объема, придающего ансамблю первозданную стабильность.
В 13 веке Домский собор был построен как церковь зального типа с нефами одинаковой высоты под одной крышей. К южной стене здания церкви присоединилось строение монастыря с квадратным двором, который окружала единственная в Латвии Крестовая галерея, являющаяся крупнейшей и самой длинной в Североевропейском регионе. Из этого начального периода строительства Домского собора до наших дней сохранились яркие образцы того времени, которые до сих пор не имеют аналогов в Балтии – фигурные и орнаментальные капители, базы и консоли.
В последующие века церковь неоднократно расширялась, каждое столетие вносило какое-то важное стилистическое дополнение, включая в архитектуру церкви формы романской, готической, барокко, эклектической и даже архитектуры югендстиля.
В 1884 году немецкой компанией E. F. Walcker & Co был построен Рижский Домский орган со 124 регистрами, 4 мануалами и педалью, который является одним из самых ценных исторических органов в мире.
Конструкция органа достигает 25 метров в высоту, 11 метров в ширину и 10 м в глубину. Орган имеет 6718 труб различного размера и материала, расположенных на 26 мехах. Домский орган имеет два стола с клавишами, которые, так же как трубы органа, расположены в два балкона. Рижский Домский орган исполнен в высокотехническом и художественном качестве, и принадлежит к позднему периоду романтизма высоких художественных достижений в строительстве органов.
Проспект Рижского Домского органа намного старше, чем орган. Его создал в 1601 году мастер Якоб Рабс. С тех пор сохранились три большие башни труб, и многочисленные изменения гравюр на дереве, выдержанные в стиле маньеризма, в проспект органа были введены в 17 и 18 веке. В связи с многочисленными перестройками проспекта, которые были связаны с установкой нового Домского органа, в конце 19 века и начале 20 столетия проспект получил свой теперешний вид.
Домский ансамбль является одной из самых популярных достопримечательностей для туристов, в среднем в год его посещают 287 000 гостей.
Translation - English The Riga Dome Cathedral is one of the greatest and oldest religious buildings in Latvia and in the Baltic region since Medieval Times. The Cathedral combines features of Romanesque architecture with those of early Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau. Historically the Riga Dome Cathedral was the central cathedral of the part of Livonia – contemporary territory of Latvia, Estonia and part of Lithuania, up until the dissolution of the Livonian Order in the year 1561.
Currently the Riga Dome Cathedral not only preserves historical, architectural, artistic and cultural values of previous times, but it also plays a significant role in spiritual and social life of contemporary Latvia.
The Riga Dome Cathedral with all its artistic values is an essential part of the global cultural heritage. The cathedral is also a national cultural site of Latvia that is included into the national register of cultural property sites and listed buildings (registry number 6537).
The Riga Dome Cathedral architectural complex is a nationally significant religious building that is located in the historic center of Riga and included in the World Heritage List issued by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In the year 2006 the Riga Dome Cathedral architectural complex was included in the list of 100 Most Endangered Sites issued by the World Monuments Fund.
The cornerstone of the Riga Dome Cathedral complex was laid on July 25, 1211. The construction works continued throughout the duration of the 13th century so long as the architectural concept of the cathedral was changed continually in the course of work. Generally, the Riga Dome Cathedral is classified as the significant example of the transitional style (from Romanesque architecture to Gothic) that is considered to be the oldest example of this kind in the East Baltic region. Clarity and legibility of the constituent parts of the geometrical structures of huge architectural volume imparting primeval stability to the group of buildings are the main characteristics of the first construction phase of the Riga Dome Cathedral and monastery complex that survived to the present day.
In the 13th century the Riga Dome Cathedral was built as a hall-shaped church with naves of equal height beneath the same roof. The southern wall of the church building is connected to the monastery building with the oblong yard surrounded by the Cross Gallery that is the only example of its kind in Latvia as well as the largest and the longest one in Northern Europe. From the initial construction phase of the Riga Dome Cathedral various significant examples of those times, such as figured and ornamental capitals, bases and projecting beams have survived to the present day and these constructions still have no parallel in the Baltic States.
During the subsequent centuries the cathedral was continually enlarged as each century contributed some essential stylistic additions that introduced elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, eclectic and even Art Nouveau styles to the architecture of the cathedral.
In the year 1884 the Organ of the Riga Dome Cathedral was built by the famous German organ building company E. F. Walcker & Co. The Riga Dome Organ, with 124 registers, 4 manuals and a pedal, is one of the most valuable historical organs in the world.
The construction of the organ is 25 meters high, 11 meters wide and 10 meters deep. The organ has 6718 pipes of different size and materials that are located on 26 bellows. The Riga Dome Organ has two keyboard tables that are located in two balconies, just as the organ pipes. The Riga Dome Organ incorporates high technical and artistic quality as it dates back to the Late Romantic period when highly artistic achievements in the field of organ building were made.
The prospect of the Riga Dome Organ is much older that the organ itself. The prospect was designed in 1601 by the organ builder Jacob Raab. Three big organ pipe towers survived unchanged from those times, as numerous changes to the Mannerist wood engravings were added to the prospect of the organ in the 17th and 18th centuries. The organ prospect started to look as it looks nowadays in the end of the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century in consequence of various transformations of the prospest that were related to installation of the new Riga Dome Organ.
The Riga Dome Cathedral complex is known as one of the most popular sightseeing attractions for tourists, as it is visited by 287 000 guests on the average per year.
