Discussion

Boris Shapiro Jan 7, 2020:
Alas, no. It would take a far, far better grasp of the language to be clear, I'm afraid.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jan 6, 2020:
Magic trick as an example for explaining шаманить. It is the origin, but not directly magic trick. Hope now it is clear.
Boris Shapiro Jan 6, 2020:
The magic trick connotation
Is a figment of your imagination.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jan 6, 2020:
шаманить Шаманить is used in the sense of "украсть, воровать", and unlawfully is used here using play on word, exaggeration as Boris mentioned, But his variant does not give that effect, it is too direct. I believe five fingered is used because someones pilfers something (pilfer is the exact and direct meaning), they use their magic tricks using fingers. that's why, шаманить is one of the term that can render what is in this context, IMO. But there might be better ones.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jan 6, 2020:
To Jerzy Umys, Hi,
Usage of the vulgar word is OK here?
Yulia Avdeenko Jan 6, 2020:
It is actually "five fingered", implying that it is unlawful in nature.

прихватизирована

Это стилистическая игра, слово unlawfully намеренно комично поставлено в пару к разговорному "слямзить". У нас есть чудесное словечко "прихватизировать", совмещающее в себе и нужное значение, и стилистическое противопоставление ("прихватить" и "приватизировать").

I see an intentional stylistic device of pairing a legal term with a slang phrase. Luckily, we have an exact one-word equivalent in Russian, complete with the awkward stylistical clash.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Turdimurod Rakhmanov : Прихватизировать -имеет слишком прямое значение, вы использовали синонимы отсюда https://ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/спионерить лучше чем это- стырить как Елена предложил.

There is nothing indirect about "стырить". Or 'to five finger', come to think of it. Challenge dismissed. And, just so you know, I do not need to use Wikipedia to pick a slang term. The perks of being a native Russian speaker, you know.

Самый нейтральный вариантом здесь можно считать, The best possible variant here might be :
- "позаимствовал"
Because it is a slang (slang, euphemistic)
Peer comment(s):

disagree Boris Shapiro : Never heard it used this way. Ever.
