固定资产转固，主要是指固定资产的形成方式有二种，一种是直接采购或其他途径获得后就可以直接投入使用的，在采购后就可以作固定资产的会计核算，并按规定在使用第二个月开始计提折旧，另一种固定资产，采购后不能直接使用，需要设备安装或者进行工程施工建造。如需安装的设备、需建造的厂房等建筑物、构筑物等，这类的固定资产资产，因为尚不具备实际使用状况，在这之前，是不能作为固定资产核算的，一般先通过“在建工程”会计科目来核算并归集相关的采购原价和建造成本。
固定资产转固，就是这后一类的需安装或建造的设备或建筑物、构筑物，在安装或建造完成后，通过验收或调试试运行，达到了正常使用状况（也称竣工验收），会计上，依据竣工验收相关资料，将原来的“在建工程”核算的内容冲销，并转到“固定资产”科目来核算，并按固定资产来管理，这个投产使用前的验收及会计账务处理过程，在专业上就称为“固定资产转固”。

我认为应该是 “固定资产资本化” (Capitalization of fixed assets) 才对。因为 “资本化” (capitalized) 后才可以折旧. 在 “在建工程” 期间不可以折旧。
