"The collateral can be posted as a simple letter of credit (“LOC”) in favour of the reinsured (or say a third party such as the Corporation of Lloyd’s) or the parties can enter into a trust agreement (“Trust Deed”) with one of the banks that offer such services (the “Trustee”). In the latter case the collateral is held by the Trustee either until maturity (at which time it is returned to the seller); or until a claim is made against the reinsurance contract (when the collateral, or a portion of the collateral depending on the claim, is paid to the reinsured)."

Further context Hi all, thanks for your helpful discussions and contributions. Having worked on more of the document, I have discovered some helpful information/context:

"La garantie devra être constituée au plus tard dans les 15 jours suivant la demande de la Cédante.
Si le Réassureur choisit de constituer sa garantie sous forme de nantissement de comptes· titres, une « déclaration de nantissement de comptes de titres financiers ,, soumise aux dispositions du code monétaire et financier français sera régularisée d'un commun accord entre les parties selon le modèle joint en Annexes."

This suggests that the combination of terms in this expression might not be that common in French, although I suspect the publisher is sufficiently reliable. It looks as though it is simply not a set term in French and that you may have to go for a composite solution in English, considering "garantie" and "engagement du réassureur" separately. "Guarantee" may mean "warranty" here, it may mean "guarantee". That may turn out to be the tricky bit. If Google is anything to go by, there are a fair number of sources with sentences containing all terms in the context of insurance/reinsurance.
