Portuguese term

quebra de caixa

Portuguese to English Bus/Financial Human Resources

CLT Comentada. 35ª edição. São Paulo: LTr, 2002, p. 290).

Discussion

Mario Freitas Jan 30, 2017:
@ Luana, In that case, I'd go for "cashier allowance". It's not "cash", since that would imply a bonus paid in cash, but it's paid in advance, along with the salary. And it's not a "bonus" because it's not paid over any type of performance. It's money advanced to the employee to cover any eventual shortage.
Luana Fernandes (asker) Jan 30, 2017:
You are right Mario, it is indeed a fringe benefit... very difficult to find the equivalent in English, but I will use something like "cash bonus" or allowance like you suggested. If you want to make a suggestion in the question, I prefer closing it correctly. Thanks a lot for your hel´p
Mario Freitas Jan 26, 2017:
Quebra de Caixa This is an additional bonus paid to the cashiers. It's like a cashier bonus or a cashier allowance. It's part of the payroll, like other fringe benefits. I did not find the correct name for it in English, but I don't think it refers to cash shortage (Clauwolf).

Peer comment(s):

agree Gilmar Fernandes : I didn't read carefully the context posted by Luana and ended-up agreeing right away with Clauwolf. The full term that should go in the glossary: "gratificação de quebra de caixa".
