Trovo in rete occorrenze di "varicosi a sciarpa" ma non riesco a trovare l'equivalente in inglese.

Two different things Hi liz, I was wondering about exactly the same thing: Could "varicositá a sciarpa" be a description of the "ropey" nature of the vein, while "funzionante sciarpa" refers to the anterolateral thigh vein (which runs into what we call the "venous star" above the femoral triangle). <br />As for Scarpa, that's the name of an 18th century Italian anatomist who, writing about perineal hernias, became the eponym for Scarpa's fascia and Scarpa's triangle. Just an incidental assonance with sciarpa.

I don't know much Italian, but can't "scarpia" mean two different things here..
i.e.
in the first instance, the word is used to describe the varicosities, whereas in the second instance this could relate to scarpa's triangle...although this would be "Scarpa" in Italian? triangolo di Scarpa

Thanks heidi :-) In particular, "ben funzionante sciarpa della porzione astra" would be difficult to understand if not in reference to a particular vein.
neutral liz askew : the thing is it says "a scarpia" and not "della scarpia"....mind you I am not that knowledgeable in Italian!
