"Primary" is also used to mean most important or priority, such as "primary study objectives", "primary test parameters", etc. So as Ellena stated, some caution is required.

URL拝見しました。そうですね、この二つの試験をならべるならPrimary testがよいかと思います。下の本被験物質などにはPrimaryは使わないので統一してしまわないようにご注意を!

I think "initial study" is appropriate as it clarifies that these tests follow the procedures of the primary investigation. "Initial" sounds more scholastic to me whereas "main" is a little vague.
