English term

reservoir

Non-PRO English to Turkish Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Idiom
What would be 'reservoir' in the sense of a natural or artificial lake used for the storage and regulation of water, like Gömbe near Kaş. I know su deposu for the storage tanks on the top of houses & göl for a lake. I have seen baraj gölü for a dam reservoir & think that some people use havn (? havne) but what is the usual Turkish word for a large lake for the storage of water?
I need some discussion/ explanation to illuminate the senses or nuances of meaning of the different words.

Discussion

Taner Tanrıöver Jun 26, 2014:
and as for "havn" or "havne", these would have to be specific technical/geographical terms if anything and not even listed in TDK's "Büyük Türkçe Sözlük" therefore quite unlikely to be in many a people's vocabulary.
Taner Tanrıöver Jun 26, 2014:
Well in terms of "discussion/ explanation to illuminate the senses or nuances", "gölet" simply means any odd artificial lake without storage of water in mind. and "rezervuar" more commonly refers to plumbing hardware rather than artificial lakes as explained below.

disagree Taner Tanrıöver : yani.. "roundabout"a "randıbat" diyen olduğu gibi "reservoir"a "rezervuar" diyen de çıkabilir elbet. Halbuki "rezervuar"ın dilimizdeki esas anlamı "Tuvaletlerde kullanılmaya yarayan su deposu"dur. Bkz. http://www.tdk.gov.tr/

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Gölet seems to mean a puddle/ pond i.e. a small body of water. I grant that rezervuar means to Zeki what in English we call a toilet cistern or, less commonly, a toilet tank. But it can be used for both and is so used on several sites. I used baraj gölü. It seems The best word in this context but I freely admit I am not a native Turkish speaker. Anyhow, the signposts to Gömbe called it göl - lake. Very many thanks to all for their valuable contributions. Gölet seems to mean a puddle/ pond i.e. a small body of water.
