: Yes, though if this is talking about videotapes, I doubt virus is the issue so much as possible content ;-)

: although VHS tapes can't spread viruses (not the computer variant anyway); the rationale is somewhere else...

: In EN, at least, pre-recorded videotapes specifically means shop-bought ones, i.e. NOT home recorded ones.

: I think that is arguably too restrictive, and also probably concentrates on the wrong aspect here; imagine if these were (illegal!) home copies of professionally-produced porn videos ;-)

enregistré à la maison
Personnellement, je mettrais "cassettes vidéo enregistrées à la maison", ce n'est ni moins ni plus ambigu qu'en anglais.
Discussion
It seems to me the issue is indeed very much one of control over content; otherwise, surely they would just have said "ALL videotapes are forbidden" (and you'll just have to make do with watching the 2 cassettes we already have of 'I Love Lucy' and 'Bewitched')?
I've been involved with a lot of clinical trials, and even more videotapes, so I know the sort of issues at stake here.
There is a good way round it, by the way: you simply record your porn over a pre-recorded tape of 'My Little Pony' or 'On Golden Pond' or something ;-)
Another element: who is still using VHS tapes? They should update their Terms & Conditions!
The point presumably being to avoid the even accidental introduction of, for example, porn material.
One assumes this is some kind of residential programme, in which case, they would presumably seek to ensure that everything remains squeaky clean.
To answer Adrien's point, from the way it is worded in EN, i.e. home-recorded videotapes, I DO think it is about the content rather than the actual cassettes; it wouldn't be that difficult to sterilize them, if contamination was really the only issue.
