Japanese term

ベッドアップ30度

Japanese to English Medical
Post-operative rehabilitation procedure (in a list 洗髪,チェアバス,ベッドアップ30度,松葉杖歩行)
Is there a set term for this in English so I can avoid something clunky like "sitting up at 30 degrees"?

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Oct 2, 2003:
Not a sentence It's part of a list of rehabilitation procedures, so I'm looking for a term rather than a sentence - if possible something to fit in the list. I just want to know if there is a term in common medical use.

tilt up the backrest in 30 degrees

I think it is the backrest of bed and not bed itself.

neutral jsl (X) : The portion which can be raised seems to be called "head", not "backrest".

raise the head of the bed by [to] 30 degrees

raise the head of the bed by [to] 30 degrees

I basically agree with cinefil's answer above, but the portion which can be raised is not called "backrest", but it is called "head". Google gives about 1,620 examples of "raise the head of the bed", and I believe this phrase is quite okay. (There are only 9 examples of "backrest of the bed" in Google.) For how much you raise the head of the bed, there are several ways. You can say "... by X degrees" or '... to X degrees", or you still can say "X degrees" without any preposition like "by" or "to". The examples below show each case.

It seems that preposition ¥"in¥" cannot be used in this case. In Google, I could not find any example of ¥"raise the head of the bed in X degrees¥".

For your additional comment, I don¥'t think that there is a fixed term for this setting. Apparently, ¥"ベッドアップ¥" is a Japanese English term, and I don¥'t believe that ¥"bed up¥" is used in the same way in English, as you also presume. In your example, ¥"ベッドアップ30度¥" is one of the examples for rehabilitation procedure, and you may be looking for a noun-like term. But, since the information in ¥"ベッドアップ¥" is too specific, it will be difficult to find a term for this expression. My suggestion for such a noun-like term would be ¥"the head of the bed raised (by [to]) 30 degrees¥".
