Addressing your speculation: "Required item? don't think it is mandatory item...." with my 2 cents worth:
"mandatory" works better here than "required" because of the strength that its legal definition gives it.
"Mandatory refers to something that is required, and not optional or subject to discretion."
Iin other words it is rooted in the systemic rules that apply to the situation. [http://definitions.uslegal.com/m/mandatory/]
A 'mandatory' requirement (note the qualification made here to the term 'requirement') cannot be ignored with impunity. It is non-negotiable.
"Required" could certainly be used here as well, but it is not as strong, overlaps with the meaning "needed", "necessary", which may imply that a subjective and discretionary decision may be made by the user about a) the relative importance of that need/ necessity, b) the advantages vs costs of exceptionally ignoring that requirement.

: It should be "item" not "parameter". I understand "mandatory" is the favored translation, however, we Japanese tend to choose "必須" quite automatically when we have to translate "required". Therefore, I think this answer is not bad either.

Thank you for the note. I've found that sometimes the value of a parameter can just be described as the parameter.
