This text is about the development and production of recombinant thrombomodulin (TM) as a drug treatment.

Recombinant TM (a membrane protein) is expressed by the cultured Chinese hamster cells transfected with the TM gene, but I'm not sure whether 原体 refers to the expressed protein itself, which would then be turned into a deliverable drug, or to the cells which expresses the protein.

At the moment I am using 'progenitor' for 原体 but I'm not absolutely sure about this.

Only very educated guesses or correct answers please!

API

原体 most likely means API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and is occasionally used as an equivalent term for 原薬 (drug substance), particularly in the context of drug manufacturing process.
Peer comment(s):

agree Mami Yamaguchi : 製品開発、製造の内容であれば、原体以外の製造品目との区別は必要で、(医薬)原体を訳する必要はあると思います。

agent

It looks like they are talking about the isolation of recombinant thrombomodulin in the final stages and not the progenitor genes. Maybe 原体 could be omitted from the final translation?

Thanks for your help.
Peer comment(s):

agree Chrisso (X) : 原体 would not need to be translated as it refers to TM
