Discussion

George Hopkins Jan 8, 2013:
Difference I did write a fairly long explanation, but pressed the wrong button (Post reference) and it disappeared.
To cut a long explanation short an "ingenjör" is usually a white-collar occupation while an engineer is often a blue-collar occupation, eg, electrician, fitter, smith, toolmaker.
Yvonne Tapper-Gardzina Jan 8, 2013:
What's the difference between an engineer and ingenjör in your opinion George?
George Hopkins Jan 7, 2013:
Ingenjör Observe the difference(s) between ingenjör and engineer.

agree George Hopkins : Possibly: Duty technician. Your comment is correct sampat but check (eg, Collins English Dictionary) for examples of usage.

Thanks, George Hopkins. I thought 'technician' was 'tekniker' or teknisk expert' in Swedish.

on call

Hello

I'm making this suggestion to give you a choice as I'm not sure that the engineer is actually 'on duty' (present on the site)

In view of the context, he could be 'on call' (available on the phone and can come to work at short notice in an emergency)

See reference which talks of 'under icke kontorstid'

Engineer on call of course
Peer comment(s):

disagree Deane Goltermann : This doesnt agree with 'Nu finns vakthavande ingenjör (VHI) ständigt på plats inom anläggningsområdet med 15 minuters inställelsetid till kontrollrummen.' at http://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se

The text quoted is not in the question and doctors on call often sleep in the hospital. (they are not on service). The suggestion is still ok in my opinion. It all depends on how they have organised things.

Senior Reactor Operator

I hope you found this doc -- http://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/Global/Publikationer... -- where the VHI sounds like a pretty senior person.

Fits with this suggestion (offered at this late stage). Have also found reference to 'reactor engineer'. Though I must agree this is an engineer who is definity on duty and in charge. In the navy, the term is engineering officer on watch, if you're interested...

Some ideas to spin if you're still working on it.
:-)
