Hello,

in the first link given below you will find illustrations (e.g. Fig 5 or Fig. 6) that show how the wires (D) touch the jacket (16) which surrounds the drum (4). The drum rotates clockwise and the angle between the bracket holding the wires (D) and the drum looks like a "foot" about to roll from heel to toe, right to left.
Incidentally, the second link offers a translation naming the opposite side of the "heel" the "toe".

The cut ("Schliff") from your example would result in a surface F in said illustration (Fig. 6)
