AllegroTrans Oct 1, 2010:
Context This could be several things as Phil indicates. You can at least give us the whole sentence - omitting names etc, to preserve confidentiality, it is so simple. We cannot see your text so we cannot divine how it fits into its general context.
Emma Paulay Oct 1, 2010:
Could also be "get involved earlier in the negotiation".
philgoddard Oct 1, 2010:
The only way you could breach confidentiality would be by giving away the customer's name. You haven't really given us enough context - it could be "be more proactive", but there's no way of knowing.

get into deals at an earlier stage

We're all just guessing. 'pole position' would be good, but the 'en amont [en aval]' language sorta implies no one starting line.

neutral AllegroTrans : Maybe, but ZERO context so I have no means to agree, it's all down to the asker
