If you can explain what you know about courses with this qualification i.e. how long the courses are usually for etc this would assist me in applying this to my understanding.

General (University) Studies Diploma
Because the systems of education vary from one country to another, we sometimes cannot find the equivalent of some degrees/certificates/diplomas, in this case I would suggest literal translation or no translation

: Clearly a diploma and not any sort of degree at all. And definitely do not translate it. As my FR ref says below, it's an intermediary diploma awarded after successful completion of 2 years of study on the way to the Licence (which is the actual degree)

: In the UK, I believe that you are unable to get a university degree from studying "General Studies". Maybe it is different in other countries.

Discussion
With the extra information I have I am more inclined to agree with Chris Hall. The reason being that this was obtained after 3 years not 2. I also have seen quite a few DEUG's - all after 2 years. This is DEG (no mention of DEUG) after 3 years. It is the first one I have ever seen though and judging by others it would appear it is not just me.
Next, and more importantly (after a phone call). The qualifications authorities here recognise this as equivalent to a 3 year degree programme and not a 2 year programme as per the DEUG. So whether they are right or not they do see it as different.
