Spanish term

corralina

Spanish to English Other Livestock / Animal Husbandry Pig farming
Hello,

I'm trying to find the correct English term for "corralina" in the context of pig farming. The sentence is:

Los animales se sacrificaron en 5 días distintos mediante un procedimiento de mínimo estrés y sin mezclar los animales procedentes de diferentes corralinas y cuadras de espera.

Thanks for any suggestions

OKay, thanks very much Muriel.
Muriel Vasconcellos Jan 15, 2010:
They're probably synonymous I looked up both definitions, and they appear to be synonymous. A corral can be small and a pen can be large, but one "thinks" of a corral being larger and a pen being smaller. That's the way they are most often used.
Marcia Liddle BA(Hons), MA, ACIL (asker) Jan 15, 2010:
Thanks patinba, wouldn't corral be pen though?

agree John Speese : Pen sounds good, pigs mixed from different pens will fight, often quite brutally.

Yes indeed! Thanks!
agree Richard Boulter : In the U.S., at least, we never refer to a containment area for pigs/hogs/swine as 'corral'. Its always a 'pen' unless other more-specific terms are used.
