Все новое - хорошое забытое старое

The new is the long-forgotten old

Words attributed to Mlle Bertin, Marie-Antoinette's dress-maker, although her memoirs are a literary forgery (I. Walshe, V.Berkov, Russian-English Dictionary of Winged Words)

Strange ... I can\'t type Russian when answering KudoZ question. Or is it my computer this time?!!! Oh, no ...

agree Teresa Pearce : It's interesting to know who said it, although personally I'd go for the Bible here...

Thank you, Teresa. Probably I would too, though the words attributed to this Mlle are a better match to the Asker's question.
agree xeni (X) : a perfect match!

agree Larissa Boutrimova : That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. (The Bible, Ecclesiastes, 1, 9-10)

Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago

The most trendy girls dress the way their great-grandmas did.

As far as I know there is no equivalent of this proverb in English. The above is simply my try to render not the form but the essence.
Peer comment(s):

agree Elizabeth Adams : that would be difficult and probably not very healthy!
