Aus- und Weiterbildung

German to English Tech/Engineering Education / Pedagogy
I'm translating a document for a technical engineering company which talks of the importance of "Aus- und Weiterbildung" for its employees. Would it be sufficient to say simply "training" in English?

Training and development

This is what I tend to use to translate this phase.

Thanks David
neutral hazmatgerman (X) : To me development is about more than just job-related training; it has a financial and a personal ring.

agree Patricia Will : what about training and professional development?

agree Harald Moelzer (medical-translator)

neutral Charles Rothwell (X) : I agree with hazmatgerman. 'CPD' ('Continuing Professional Development') is about more than training AND only takes place AFTER initial professional training.

continuous education and training

would be one option
Peer comment(s):

agree hazmatgerman (X) : As a nonnative I wonder whether "continuing" might not be better, otherwise agree.

good point
agree Patricia Will : yes, continuing education and training is correct

disagree Dr. Andrew Hudson : Be careful in the US - "Continuing education" is often used to mean learning a hobby at a community college (something that is for interest or enjoyment only; not your job). I speak from experience as a college educator who has taught such courses.

initial and further training

Need to distinguish between 'initial', 'further' and 'advanced' I should say. (There was EXACTLY the same query only a few days ago!)

Laurina: Please see the note I added to my answer. Apologies. MY brain was playing tricks as the earlier enquiry was not 'exactly' the same as yours; 'Weiterbildung' versus your 'Aus- und Weiterbildung'.
Note from asker:
Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, but I did search the database prior to posting my question, but could only find queries relating to "Ausbildung" and "Weiterbildung" on their own. Could you point me to the query that is exactly the same as mine please?
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : I'd have said "vocational and further training" although there seem to be various options here. / You do have a point here.

Thanks, Steffen. To me , though, 'training' (versus 'education') suggests 'vocational' already.

Formal education and training

In my experience formal education is full time schooling with a degree, training is courses you attend during work f.e.
