In tourist guide or PR context, you would say something like 'admission is limited; free tickets are available at/from xxxx' (if the there is no admission charge) or 'limited admission, tickets available at €xxx from xxx or at the door'.

: Free admission ticket sounds right to me and if they've gone to the bother of printing them, they've probably also counted how many! Anything to do with numbering or controlled-admission does not make it clear that these are free tickets.

The demand for tickets within the first two days of sale suggests securing tickets quickly - including shuttlebus-tickets as well as the free (!) numbered tickets for all performances.

: While this might be a useful substitution, its not necessarily a good translation. "Zählkarte" is all about counting people, not assigning them a numbered seat or position. A "Zählkarte" would more usually be a "Strichliste" than an individua ticket.

Thanks, Andrew - though misterherrnau does say they are free, and it is interesting to see that both these links are also Austrian - perhaps it is a term specific to that country?

: I'd say something like 'controlled-admission tickets' in a formal context, or simply 'free admission tickets' in colloquial use. They need not be numbered (see e.g. Zählkarte zur Gedenksendung ... 450 x 262 - 26k - jpg www.daswienerlied.at )

Those are good suggestions, Ken - I did suggest 'free tickets', too, which is even more informal. You ought to post these as a separate suggestion.

Having actually been to events or concerts (in Austria) at which Zählkarten have been handed out or available, I would say that 'controlled-admission ticket' is probably more accurate, as it is more an indication of numbers and how many can be admitted. In a sense, then, they are also 'numbered tickets'.
