Bio
Bildende Kunst (insb. aber nicht nur Moderne/Zeitgenossen) + Verwandtes / visual art and allied fields (notably, but not only: modern and contemporary).

Visual art at University of Wales and Freie Grafik at Düsseldorf, and a continuing artist existence (sculpture, concept) predestine the language part of me to steer in that general direction too. Close collaboration with artists and art historians/curators publishing bilingually. My part in 'the artistic debate' - not least since seeing their own texts metamorphose into another language enhances authors' awareness of what they're saying/what they want to say. At its best, that, too, a collaborative 'sculptural' process of shaping and fining. Only then can the notorious translator's self-effacement come to bear.

Much of my translation work is for museums and galleries and ranges from in-depth catalogue texts to cheery P/R. Highlights have included the German Art in the 20th Century cat. in London (R.A., 1985) and Sculpture Projects in Münster (Münster: Hatje, 1997).
