English term

padding/padders

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping Mobile Harbour Crane
8.8.10 Padding on the Quay

Some feeder vessels are equipped with semi-automatic twist locks, and therefore there will be a need to remove or insert twist locks on the quay.

The ship’s gear box shall be discharged by the mobile harbour crane and located such that it is at the end of the mobile harbour crane facing the access gate onto 204 berth.

The gearbox shall be positioned at right angles to the quay, and shall be brought as close as possible to the structure of the mobile harbour crane.

Padders will be dropped off and picked up by berth vehicle via the access gate onto 203 berth from the 204 access road.

Pedestrian access to the mobile harbour crane shall be along the quayside pedestrian walkway, and then around the mobile harbour crane, close in to the outriggers.

The safe area for padders is deemed to be within the profile of the outriggers of the mobile harbour crane, since a load cannot physically be brought this close in to the structure of the crane.

If a weather box (‘Wendy house’) is required for weather protection, this shall be delivered to the transfer pad by a general straddle carrier, and shall be set down for the shuttle straddle carrier to pick up and place near to the mobile harbour crane adjacent to the fence line to the landside of the mobile harbour crane area.

The Padders are to remain in the safe area within the profile of the outriggers until the crane driver has the container suspended at the required height above the shuttle straddle carrier interchange area.

Padders shall only approach the container when any swing is under control, i.e. the suspended load is only swinging gently. They will then leave the safe area to either fit or remove the twist locks from the bottom corner castings - these men are then ‘protected’ by the presence of the crane spreader.
