Vorhangabschluss

German to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
Unfortunately I have no picture of this. The text is a caption in an article about a renovated hotel in Zurich.
"Die feine Handarbeit des Smok wird hier für die Gestaltung der Vorhangabschlüsse verwendet."
I asked this question earlier on today but received no satisfactory answer. It's a tough one, I know...

Discussion

Stephen Reader Aug 10, 2007:
Contd from note@David. Guess it's just curtains pleated (hui, schüüli schön....) top &/or bottom or stitched with smocking, see Barbara. 1 plausible lead from <smok+Stoff>: www.laredoute.ch/CH/de/StaticPages/ContentPage.aspx?pagenam...

curtain finishes

I can only think of the following:

The fine technique of smocking has been used for the curtain finishes here.

"Smocking" is a decorative needlework technique, sort of like machine embroidery. Usually used on little girls' dresses, etc.

curtain finishing, edging

I think it's likely to be one of these you need.
Peer comment(s):

agree Stephen Reader : non-expert intuition says edging (wouldn't finish/ing suggest overall surface treatment?). Re 'Smok' (I was curious), you 3 may know more. Seems now a variant/typo of smock &/or smocking, now a brand/type - googled .
