Thanks María Eugenia - I'm not sure I'm 100%right about this, but I'd say the diff between the two terms is : entrepreneural would define a skill, whilst enterprising defines as I said a trait.

agree moken : Me 2. I'm not sure the text means that t subject is always on the look out for potential business, so as to speak, but rather that he/she shows a great deal of initiative. Not sure 'entrepreneurial' would be used this way. :O) :O)

'can-do' spirit

If you want something slightly less formal. It's a favourite expression of the HR manager of an organization I used to work for. He used it specifically to refer to people with a high degree of self-motivatation.

I just feel that "entrepreneurial spirit" is more of a collective thing, used to describe a nation, for example, rather than an individual. I could be wrong.
Perhaps "instinct" is better than "instincts".

I don't think entrepreneurial spirit really requires when to have tried to start up a business. Look at, for example, the first paragraph from this article: (http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Entrepreneurial-Spirit&id=8636...

Deep down inside each of us has an entrepreneurial spirit. The term entrepreneurship doesn’t apply strictly to our careers and the way we go about making money; it applies to every part of our life.

I.e. - it can be used metaphorically, and in a testimonial is may well be appropriate, even if not literally true.

However, I think "enterprising spirit" could be acceptable as well.
