I cannot find the French (French Canadian) term for this bird in any of my resources. I believe the Latin name is "Worxius Laphonius."

found this odd explanation on the internet, for what it's worth !
3 French Hens refers to Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues
4 Calling Birds refers to the Four Gospels and/or the Four Evangelists
this does not help with the translation, mind you

dont know how to insert my answer to your comment above ! your text (VERY oddly !) cites the birds etc. mentioned in the traditional Christmas ditty !

papot'oiseau
Just an idea...
You must have taken this term form the web site / presentation at http://www.ibiblio.org/slanews/conferences/sla2004/programs/... . http://www.ibiblio.org/slanews/conferences/sla2004/programs/... shows the calling bird. All of these names are just word games like "Breeds: The Pack Rat - Keepis Lotza Stuffis".
So I would say in French papot'oiseau this evening. :-)

Unless you took the latin name from the site given and the English name from another text. Could you give more context? What are the other species?

merle noir?
sans plus de contexte, c'est impossible de trouver le nom exacte, puisqu'il y a différentes espèces de "calling birds"
s'il s'agit ici du "calling bird" de la chanson, c'est un merle noir / Turdus merula / blackbird
http://www.oiseaux.net/oiseaux/passeriformes/merle.noir.html
("colley bird" or "collie bird" means blackbird)

Je sais que la question est fermée, mais voici quand même...
Discussion
Now I just have to find a French (or French Canadian) tiddy with animals in it... know any? ;-)
"NAME issued an urgent call to action to protect partridges, pear trees, calling birds, French hens, turtle doves and Canada's endangered species from the threat of extinction."
Instead of "turtle doves" the client should have used "ringed turtle-doves," so maybe they didn't use the proper name for "calling birds" either.
