This regards a tongue and groove mechanism on the sides of wood panels to help them interlock more securely. As this document describes it, without this particular mechanism, if you put two floor panels down and they lose moisture content (as wood tends to do), then between the joined edges "大きな偏りが生じる" ("ooki na katayori ga shojiru"). Is this saying the panels will pull away from each other, or that the joint between them will be uneven?

I agree with the people above in that we are not talking about a gap. But, I think that the best word in this case is the one that you suggested. The beams will warp and joint between them will become very uneven.
