English term

Arena (Murphy's Law)

English to Spanish Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Anton's Law of Stadiums and Arenas. I would use just "estadios" for "stadiums and arenas". Please excuse me if I only give points to a better alternative.
Proposed translations (Spanish)

Just a comment: I don't see anything wrong with using "arenas" in Spanish. It has the same connotations as in English, and is equally uncommon. The answer by mchandias seems quite appropriate, to me.

estadios

Well, "estadios" is related to soccer, baseball or athletic competitions. "Arenas" are mainly designated to box, wrestling, basketball and other in-door events. In Mexico, la "Arena México" is a well known box events location.

"Estadios" could also be the perfect scenario for box or wrestling events if you want to have 100,000 guys attending the event.

So, "estadios" could be a general term for both stadiums and arenas, imo.

Estadios y arenas

la "arena" es el campo de batalla. Su traducción es tal cual.
No hay por qué usar sólo "Estadios" para ambas palabras, cuando se pueden traducir tan directamente

Comment: "Your proposal is exact from a denotative point of view; however, I do not think an appeal to the daily experience of a modern urban dweller should include the Spanish word 'arena'."
