Source text - English To say that I was compelled by Parasite from start to finish is an understatement; its filming style with tracking shots are enthralling. Having watched several Korean films during the London Korean Film Festival, I was familiar with the usual genres employed in such films but Parasite seemed to defy them all! Parasite is comedic, in a quirky way, it is also a thriller, straddles class divisions and also depicts a family tale amongst other genres and is therefore likely to appeal to all ages.
Parasite truly deserves to be watched in a cinema to appreciate its nuances and the stylish cinematography. As a summary, to avoid spoilers, Parasite tells the tale of the interaction between the Park family and the Kim’s, an unemployed family, whose contrasting worlds collide with long lasting consequences.
[...]Bong Joon-Ho manages to pique the audience’s interest with brightly lit shots coupled with the effective use of indoor space, and it is surprising to realise, after the film’s 2 hour 12 minute length, that most of the scenes occur within the Park family’s home. The mundane elements of domesticity are displayed with an intriguing perspective showcasing Bong Joon-Ho’s flair. It is a slow burner but you will revel in its beauty and ingenuity as Parasite convinces that it operates solely on one level but it is in fact multi-layered and depicts social realism with empathy and pathos.
The cast are beguiling to watch, every facial movement and action is accentuated, even the mere act of walking up or down stairs can convey hidden meaning, which the camera fragments. Levels of unease are also created by virtue of that effective use of space with unusual camera angles and dramatic weather conditions ratcheting up that sensation. There is a surreal nature to Parasite, which its score emphasises, and furthermore the film adopts elements of the absurd devised in such an ingenious way which is truly cinematic magic. Parasite’s apparent eeriness will certainly keep you riveted and would not feel alien to the Twilight Zone school of filmmaking.
The actors are very impressive and add breadth to their roles creating relatability whilst seeming effortlessly cool. When Ki-Woo and Ki-Jeong Kim were working within the Park family home as private tutors they certainly epitomised this level of nonchalant, understated authority creating an aura of mysticism with the unspoken, almost mythical, tutoring techniques employed. Quite simply, the actors Park So-Dam and Choi Woo-Sik, as Ki-Woo and Ki-Jeong, are compelling to watch in the different directions that Parasite follows and they carry these performances seamlessly thereby inviting the audience to be on their side.
[...]Parasite is a remarkable piece of extremely skilful filmmaking, it is simply a must see film, and so I am looking forward to re-watching the film on its UK general release date.
Translation - Czech Prohlásit, že mě film Parazit (Parasite) uchvátil od začátku až do konce, je slabé slovo; jeho filmový styl využívající jízdu kamery je fascinující. Díky tomu, že jsem během londýnského filmového festivalu London Korean Film Festival zhlédl několik korejských filmů, jsem již byl obeznámen s obvyklými žánry, které jsou v takovýchto dílech používány − film Parazit jako by jim ale všem vzdoroval! Parazit je nejen výstředním způsobem komediální, je to ale i thriller, klene se nad tématem třídního rozdělení a kromě jiných žánrů zachycuje i rodinný příběh – a z toho důvodu pravděpodobně osloví všechny divácké věkové kategorie.
Snímek Parazit si vskutku zaslouží být zhlédnut v kině, aby byl divák schopen ocenit všechny jeho nuance a stylovou kinematografii. Aniž by byla vyzrazena pointa filmu, lze jej shrnout jako příběh o interakci mezi rodinou Parkových a rodinou Kimových, jejíž členové jsou nezaměstnaní. Ve filmu dochází ke střetu protikladných světů těchto rodin, a to s dlouhotrvajícími následky.
[…]Režisér Bong Joon-ho dokáže podnítit zájem diváků prostřednictvím jasně nasvícených záběrů kombinovaných s efektivním využitím vnitřních prostor. A po zhlédnutí 252minutové stopáže filmu je překvapivé si uvědomit, že se vlastně většina scén odehrává uvnitř domu rodiny Parkových. Všední prvky rodinného života jsou zobrazeny pomocí neotřelé perspektivy, která vystavuje na odiv Bong Joon-hovo nadání. Děj filmu se rozvíjí pomalu, divák se ale bude kochat jeho krásou a důvtipem. A třebaže se jej Parazit snaží přesvědčit o tom, že funguje pouze na jedné rovině, je ve skutečnosti mnohovrstevnatým dílem, které zobrazuje sociální realismus s empatií a patosem.
Herecké obsazení předvádí strhující podívanou, každý pohyb obličeje i gesto jsou zdůrazněny; dokonce i pouhá chůze po schodech může nést skrytý význam, který kamera rozkládá na jednotlivé části. Díky efektivnímu využití prostoru pomocí neobvyklých úhlů záběru je vytvořena míra znepokojení, přičemž tento dojem je dále umocněn dramatickými povětrnostními podmínkami. Parazit se vyznačuje surrealistickým charakterem, který filmová hudba dále podtrhuje. Film navíc přejímá i prvky absurdna, které jsou zkonstruovány tak geniálním způsobem, že se jedná o skutečné kinematografické kouzlo. Zjevná přízračnost snímku Parazit zcela jistě udrží diváka před obrazovkou jako přikovaného a nebude mu připadat nepodobná filmové škole Twilight Zone.
Herecké výkony jsou velice působivé, herci dodávají svým rolím hloubku, čímž vytvářejí pocit porozumění, zatímco se jeví nenuceně klidní. Když protagonisté Ki-Woo a Ki-Jeong-kim pracovali v rodinném domu Parkových jako soukromí doučovatelé, nepochybně ztělesnili tuto úroveň uvolněné, nenápadné autority. Ta spolu s používanou, byť nevyslovenou a téměř mýtickou vyučovací metodou vytváří opar mysticismu. Jednoduše řečeno, herečku Park So-dam (v roli Ki-Jeong) a herce Choi Woo-shika (v roli Ki-Wooa) je v oněch rozličných směrech, do kterých film Parazit zabíhá, strhující pozorovat. Své role ztvárňují přesvědčivě a bez námahy, čímž diváky zvou, aby se připojili na jejich stranu.
[…]Snímek Parazit je pozoruhodný počin nesmírně zručné filmařiny. Shlédnout této film je jednoduše nezbytností, a já se tedy těším na to, až se na něj budu moci znovu podívat v den jeho britské premiéry.
